The Cardboard Throne is a chair made entirely of cardboard, paper, and glue. It can comfortably support well over 250 pounds.
Layers of single and double ply cardboard make this chair strong and durable.
Originally, I had wanted to make the entire chair out of the shape that the arms are in the final design. However, it took me well over fifteen minutes to trace and cut out each cardboard spiral shape, and so I decided to use the design only for the arms of the chair. I had chosen the layered design originally because I knew it would be incredibly strong and durable, so I knew I had to find something equally strong to make the new seat and back.

Cardboard is incredibly strong when a force is applied perpendicular to the corregation, which is how I decided to make the vertical triangle shapes. They held weight very easily. However, sitting on just the triangle shapes was quite uncomfortable. I didn't want to cover the triangles, as I liked the look it created, so instead I filled in some of the triangles with spirals of cardboard to make the seat more comfortable.

Finally, I painted the chair. I would have kept the chair as plain cardboard, but I was reusing cardboard sheets leftover from an event that had paint and stains all over them. I left parts of the chair as plain cardboard so that people could see that it was indeed made of nothing but cardboard and glue.
